High hardness steel, hard metal powder, superalloys and bimetallic materials in industry more widely. These materials and products are almost indestructible, but also gave rise to a new problem: how can the most economical way to process these materials into the final product. It is gratifying that the tool supply manufacturers have made new progress in terms of the development blade milling and turning machining high hardness of the material. Currently, coated carbide, cermet, polycrystalline boron nitride (cbn), and blade polycrystalline diamond (pcd) materials have been applied. Specially shaped blades made of advanced materials, special coating adhesion surface during processing can withstand mechanical shock and heat generated when worn. However, using these blades will also be required other external conditions, one of which is the need to work closely with an experienced tool suppliers.
Blade costs are relatively low, the cost of carbide inserts about 3% of the total cost of processing, cbn blades accounted for 5-6%, so the use of inexpensive blade is a wrong way to save. The use of advanced materials blade can recover the investment in the short term, and the rejection rate is very low.
On the other hand, in a pair of big cutter blade it is not necessarily a costly mistake on the coat. cbn inserts carbide inserts cost 8-10 times. When using these advanced materials blade, cutting speed and feed rate if incorrect, it will affect product quality and tool life. Because the realization of inventory reserves difficult to choose the right blade requires proper evaluation process and the overall process efficiency.
